Game of Thrones and HBO
Most of us are aware of the popularity Game of Thrones has gained over the last few years. What I investigated was the number of searches for Game of Thrones and how they interacted with the number of searches for HBO in the United States during the last 12 months. It is visualized in this graph that the number of searches for Game of Thrones at the start of season 6 seemed to have a strong impact on the number of searches for HBO. Not only did it have a seemingly strong impact at the beginning of the season, throughout the season HBO had more searches than the rest of the year which were fairly steady. It is clear in the graph that during the season there were significantly more searches for Game of Thrones compared to the rest of the year which had similar consistent numbers to HBO. What was slightly surprising about the search trends of Game of Thrones was that the numbers at the end of season 6 were much higher than that at the beginning of the season.
